Herrenchiemsee by train
We'll be in Munich next week and I would like to take a day trip to Herrenchiemsee - probably on Saturday. We can take advantage of Happy Wkend ticket. It seems we can travel to Prien. Anyone know what the transport is from train station to get the boat to go to see the castle? How often does it run? Costs - for both boat and admission to castle? Anything else to see while there? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance1 NAncy

We spent a weekend there last year and loved it. There are frequent trains from Munich. The train station in Prien am Chiemsee is near the Eisenbahn (steam train) that transports people to the lake area and ferrys. Make sure you also take the boat to Fraueninsel-lovely-in addition to seeing the castle!! I don't remember costs, but they were not way out of line.

Thanks for the info. does the same ferry/boat take you to both places? Do they run fairly frequently? Thanks again.

Yes, when you purchase your ferry ticket, purchase the ticket to go to both locations. The times for pick-up and drop off are listed at the ticket locations. Plan for lunch or dinner on Fraueninsel. There are some lovely restaurants there and purchase some Klosterlikor and marzipan.

OOps-forgot to mention, that you want to find out what time the English tour for Herrenchiemsee is offered. I believe it was as noon. You should be able to find this on line also.

Thanks, again, Cammy. Looking forward to our trip next week. nancy
