No. most will not be free.. on Heritage days they open historical sites like palaces etc for free,,not museums.. so places like Luxembourg Palace, Petit Palace, and Hotel de Ville.

However my information may be a bit outdated,, it would best if you simply went on each sites website ( they all have them) and look it up on them under admissions.

Frankly free days at museums are best avoided.. well at the big musuems anyways as lines are long and crowds are hideous.. I did one free sunday at Louvre about 10 years ago and it was a nightmare.. never again ..

I agree with most of above, unless you are dead broke, free days are horrible at museums. But these days are not mainly for free museum entry of the major museums (Journees du Patrimoine). They do have some activities at museums, it's usually something special or a workshop or lecture. Many of the museums involved are always free anyway, as the city owns them. But occasionally they do have some free entry to certain museums on those days that are not usually free, you'd have to check the program, there is no rule (ie, Cluny). I've never seen a place like the Louvre involved.

I rather doubt you'll find info about that on the museum's websites, you have to find the program for the event which hasn't come out yet for Sept 2015.

HEre is an example from last year

The main purpose of these days is not really just to give entry to the major museums tourists want to go to, it's a little more special activities than that.
