Heraklion - inexpensive hotel

I am going to be spending one full day in Heraklion when I am Crete since I will be taking an early ferry to Santorini from there. I am looking for a hotel that will satisfy me - clean and inexpensive - as well as my husband - has a pool. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Shellee I think you may have some conflicting requirements.. a hotel right IN Heraklion that ALSO has a pool and ALSO is inexpensive. No can do. Even if you spend a bundle, I don't think many Heraklion hotels run to pools. I can however, recommend Hotel Kronos. In an ugly city, it has one of the better locations. Right at the water, looking out at the old fort and city walls and the sunset. By contacting the hotel directly -- http://www.kronoshotel.gr/ -- In Sept. 03 we got a triple for 45E including breakfast and a double for 35E. ANd they were very nice, clean, view. Also across the street very nice open air cafe for drinks & dinner. It's also very short ride down main waterside road to the ferry. PS since you are going to spend a whole day in Heraklion I assume you will spend a couple hours in the #2 Museum in all of GReece. Some people come to Crete just to see that Museum. Do give it a try.

I realize I should have been more specific. I wrote this message when I was looking at Santorini hotels and so inexpensive is relative to that. I'm looking for the hotel to be around (and not more really) than 100 Euros per night.

I have a list of hotels in Heraklion from the travel agent. We booked the Lato for 93 euros in sept. I have not stayed there, but it had good reviews on trip advisor. Other hotels on the list include the Atrion for 78, the Olympic for 79, and Irini hotel for 49. If you don't get anyother input, you can check out the reviews on tripadvisor.

I stayed at the Olympic and thought it was nice. Good location for walking around town.

Lato is fine. Clean, typically smallish (but not too tiny) European room size. Best breakfast we had on the trip. Short walk to the harbor. Have no idea whether they have a pool or not, but I suspect maybe not.

We stayed at the Atrion for one night before a flight out of Heraklion. Nothing special but it was ok and fits your requirements, except for pool.
