is the 9th addroisment a good area to stay in paris?

Hi

We have only ever stayed in the 6th but am looking at Hotel Banke in the 9th? Is this area a good place for a family with teenaggers to stay?

It is a good area, close to the famous shopping departments, to Opera. I don't think there is anything of interest for teenagers in the immediate area, but the location is quite central, you can get around easy.

It's pretty upmarket, but mainly commercial/business oriented as an area.

You can do a sort of photo-tour of the street on the Pages Jaunes site:

I love the area and stay there often, I prefer it to the 6th and 5th. I don't see why the 6th would be better for teenagers than the 9th. I say go for it.

Nothing wrong with the choice. Good location for Grands Magasins, the Passages,etc..

My preference, when possible is to be near the Seine.

I've stayed there a couple times and find the characterization as up market not apt for where I stayed or pretty much any part of the 9th I can think of. I guess it depends what that means (to me, that means the 6th, 8th or 16th, places like that). I stayed in regular neighborhood areas around place St Georges and up there, and I've stayed near the Trinite church, also. None of these areas are particularly commercial nor upscale. I don't see why the 6th would be better for teens than the 9th, either, the 6th is very upscale. Lots of young people were hanging out in the local cheap cafes and restos where I stayed in the 9th, it was much more normal than the 6th.

Now that hotel cited is near the dept stores, so it isn't a regular residential neighborhood right around the hotel, and that particular locaiton is very commercial as that's what it is -- stores. It's a convenient area, it would be okay. A lot of first-time tourists like areas like that, actually, it reminds me of an area I stayed near Les Halles-Chatelet, also. OF course there is lots other parts of the 9th and they aren't that far, with cheap restaurants and things to do. Lots of young people were in clubs and bars in the area where I stayed.
