HELSINKI--HOTEL KAMP
Hi; Has anyone stayed at Hotel Kamp in Helsinki? Main concern is the location to the old city. We are staying there two nights with 'Starwood points [4800] and US dollars [90]. The hotel itself looks wonderful. We will then take a flight on SAS or BLUE1 to Stockholm. I have looked at baggage constraints, but does anyone have any first hand information. I saw the horror story about Air Baltic and the extra charges. Thanks Richard

We were looking at that hotel for a spring trip that woulod include Helsinki and found good reviews on tripadvisor. Be sure to post a trip report when you get back with all your finds for Helsinki!

Hi Laurie; We are going in August with six others. It's our 50th Anniversary trip. So now, I will wait for your trip report. Best Richard

I haven't stayed there, but the location is on the Esplanade? That is a linear park that is popular for walking, sitting, street performers, etc. That is the edge of the shopping district. It is easy walk to the harbor, government buildings, Lutheran cathedral, Russian church. Easy access to street car(I just walk)to museums.
I've flown tickets that were booked through Blue1 but I'm not sure if it was Blue1 or SAS or operated by or what. I usually check one 22" bag with no problems. You can catch a bus from the train station near your hotel to the airport. I've even taken the city bus instead of the express bus. |
The address is Pohjoisesplanadi 29 (pohjois = northern)and the location is very good to shopping and sightseeing as Kay2 wrote :)I haven´t stayed at Hotel Kämp myself, but it is meant to be the best hotel in Finland.
I found this on Blue1´s website "The free-of-charge baggage allowance for Blue1 and the SAS Group for checked baggage is 20 kg. Oversize baggage, must be reserved in advance as a special request via the Blue1 Sales Center" I have never had a problem with either of them. Tervetuloa Suomeen! :) |
Thanks 'Babelic' and 'Kay2'. I will book the hotel and also the 'air' from Helsinki to Stockholm. Probably on Blue1 as the price is very reasonable. Richard

I stayed at the Hotel Kamp using the same points+dollars deal from Starwood this past June. The location is excellent as everyone has said upthread.
The rooms were larger than many European hotels I've had before, and the bathrooms were HUGE even by American standards. If you happen to be Starwood platinum, you can use the sauna at the spa next door for free. We really loved this. The only downside was that there is a fee for the Internet (we brought a laptop) and the free wireless in the cafe is spotty at best. That said, this is a great hotel. Enjoy your trip! |
Haven't stayed at Hotel Kamp. We have stayed at Hotel Anna which was okay but wouldn't recommend it. We liked the Hotel Marski better. It is closer to shopping and wharf etc. I would stay at Hotel Marski again.
Have you thought of taking the Silja Line ferry from Helsinki to Stockholm? It is overnight so you would get a cabin for sleeping and a private bathroom. Ours was quite small but adequate. That is really a fun way to travel between the 2 cities. They have a fantastic buffet dinner. Think there is a casino and a dance/party area. http://www.tallinksilja.com/en/sched...to/default.htm |
Thanks; Hotel Kamp in now booked. We had considered an overnight cruise, but decided on a quick flight to Stockholm. Richard
