Help--York Hotels

Hi, we want to stay in the city of YOrk for two days. So far I've found the Grange, the Churchill and the Dean Court. Like medium sized 3 star hotels under $200 with breakfast and VAT. What do you think? Anybody with firsthand experience or other suggestions? Many thanks.

I have stayed twice at the Dean Court
and highly recommend it. It's fantastic...great location at the foot of the Minster, really friendly staff and convenient to the pedestrian district. It's not inexpensive but it is good value, especially in terms of location. You can walk to Betty's for tea and a fat rascal in 5 minutes flat!
Last July they were renovating some of the rooms on the third floor so you might want to inquire as to avoid an renovation noises. Ask for Susan at reception....

Thanks, but when I just contacted the Dean Court, they said they were fully booked for our dates. Wow! That's pretty far ahead, which is making me really worried. Does anyone know about the Grange or Churchill?

We stayed two nights at the Judges Lodging last September. It is a quality inn in a good location. We normallum use Karen Brown recommendations but did this on our own and were quite pleased.

I too recommend the Judges Lodging. It's very close to the Cathedral and is the place the circuit judges used to reside when their travels around the country took them to York. It definitely has character. I think we paid about L90 GBP for a double. In case you're interested fax is 00 44 1 904 679947

I have not stayed at the following, but it was recommended by friends
Hudson's Hotel, 60 Bootham. 30 rooms, short walk from the Minster. Room rate includes full breakfast. Dinner available. Private bathrooms, tv, coffee/tea-making facilities. Hotel has two restaurants and roof terrace.
Very clean, staff very helpful.
Kam -

I stayed at the Churchill in June 1999 and would recommend it. It is a short walk to the Minster and the great old streets and shopping in York. It is a small hotel, served a good breakfast and had a friendly staff.

Martha
Perhaps not an option for you, but I stayed at a bed and breakfast less than five minutes from the old city walls at a much less expensive price - it was about $65 per night including a large breakfast and very friendly hosts. The house was very nicely decorated. I don't remember the name of the place, but I do remember there were quite a few similar places. If you want to save money, but still want nice surroundings, look into a B&B as an option.

Howard
