ek, Zerlina, Ann - you ladies are too kind with me.

You wouldn't expect the latest difficulty: today, the Masseria's phone doesn't work anymore! It took me a few hours to find out what the problem is: last night, several kilometers of telephone lines have been stolen (!!) by copper thieves, and a whole region around Minervino is without telephone connection, currently. But... end is well, all is well: I managed to find out, through his olive oil producing father, the mobile phone number of the Masseria's owner; I talked to him; and he will gladly accomodate you: same arrangement as above, Signora Erika, 2 persons, 2-2.30 pm - just at Masseria Barbera, this time.

Before I cancel the other table with the incredibly nice lady at Taverna Garibaldi, ek: would you perhaps want to dine there on another day, or should I cancel entirely?

STUPENDO! Franco I cannot thank you enough! Masseria Barbara it is!

I do not think we will have time now for Garibaldi, so you if you do not mind another phone call...

This certainly has been a surreal saga.....Luger-like behaviors and now copper thieves bringing down the communications systems. I almost burst out laughing when I first read your post! Ah, Italia!

What will tomorrow bring, I wonder!

I am so excited, and so grateful to you, Franco, for all of your help. I promise to report back in excruciating detail!

Ok, table at Taverna Garibaldi cancelled.
Please note, ek, that it's Barbera, not Barbara - it's their family name (an old and noble family from Trani). Have fun, and enjoy your meals (not just this one)!

Duly noted, Franco! And thank you again for all of the diligent work on my behalf!

To add to the surreal scene, I just received an e-mail from my hotel telling me that La Tradizione is "fully booked" for Sunday night dinner!

Masseria Barbera will be perfect; it looks like a very easy drive.

eck - i hope so much that this has all gone well and that your meal/s and trip are living up to expectations.

I am off to Italy myself on sunday, to do a week's italian course [in tuscany, Franco - I followed your advice about this!] and then to spend a few days in florence hopefully putting it to good use.

i'm looking forward to catching up with you when we both get back!

Hi! I just have time enough to leave the table for a quick hello and to say that Masseria Barbera was stupendous! Between that, and Antichi Sapori in Montegrosso the following night, we had two of our most memorable meals in a very long time. Full details to follow after I return home..

re copper thieves. It 's the going trend. They just apprehended close to 40 of them in Barcelona alone after months of investigation.

Can't wait for your report.
