Help With Venice Italy Hotels?

My husband and I are travelling to Venice in two weeks and are looking for a special hotel to make our stay memorable. Although we are not wealthy, we are thinking around $200 US! We are hoping that Fodorites can assist us by recommending a hotel on a canal that was particuarly memorable for you. A web site or phone number for the hotel would be particulary helpful.

Thanks so much in advance for your help,
Shirley and Ken

I would book asap if you're going in 2 weeks. Check out Venere.com, you can easily see what's available in your pricerange and either book through there website or contact the hotels directly. I like Hotel FLora (www.hotelflora.it).

I'm not sure if all these are under $200, but this was my short list of hotels in Venice--we leave in two weeks for Italy too!:
* Hotel Ala
* Hotel American
* Hotel Flora
* Antico Doge
* Ai Due Fanali
* Locanda Barbarigo
* Hotel Belle Arti
* Hotel Giorgione

We finally decided on the Giorgione. Good Luck!

I second the recommendation of the Hotel Flora. We were there two weeks ago and found it clean and comfortable with an UNBEATABLE location. Our room was E130/night including Continental breakfast and taxes.

We are leaving in 3 days for Venice (Yeah!) and are staying at the San Clemente Palace, a fairly new 4-star hotel for 175 euros, including buffet breakfast. The hotel is located on a small private island across the water from San Marco, and the free hotel boat shuttles guests back & forth 24hrs/daily. It looks lovely, and has received good reviews here and at TripAdvisor. Our recommendation came via our travel agent who has received happy feedback from other clients. The hotel phone number is: 39-041-244-5001, fax: 39-041-244-5800.
