Help with Traveling from Rome to Sorrento

Would you recommend traveling to Naples by train then hiring a driver to Sorrento or direct to Sorrento by train. I don't think you can go non stop to Sorrento from Rome. Please advice. Thank you. Price is not an issue, more important is time in travel.

You must change trains in Naples. Take an ES train from Rome to Naples and then the Circumvesuviana train from Naples to Sorrento. I don't think a driver would really save any travel time between Naples and Sorrento. The train between Naples and Sorrento will take a little over an hour and cost 3.10E.

The 'direct to Sorrento by train' option has worked for me every time. I catch a train from Rome's Termini station down into Naples Centrale station, then just stay in the station, walking to another area to catch the convenient Circumvesuviana train (leaves every 10 minutes). It takes you directly into the heart of Sorrento (the last stop) and you can then either walk to your hotel or catch a taxi from outside the train station turn-around area.

Hi S,

If you will be taking the train to Naples, you won't save time hiring a car.

Upon arrival at Napoli Centrale (Pza Garibaldi) go downstairs to the Circumvesuviana train station.

There are several trains per hour to Sorrento.
