help with travel sites from nice to paris
 

I am planning an extension of a Rick Steves' tour, which will end in Nice in early June. I plan to stay in France an extra 5 days, flying home on the 5th day out of Paris. Should I stay in Nice for the 4 days (what to see?), or head north towards Lyon and the Alps and Annacy? Places to stay? Train or rental car?
Help!

It would be <b>really</b> helpful if we knew:

The locations included on the tour (doe it include time in Nice or simply end there?)

Where you have been in France before

What your interests are

The 15-day tour ends in Nice, having taken us from Paris to Normandy, Sarlat, Arles, (places in between)and on to Nice. The only areas not explored will be the Riviera and the Alps areas/Lyon/Dijon. We fly home to NJ in the afternoon of June 5th.

Forgot to add this is the first trip to France and touring wineries are not top of list of things to do. Beautiful scenery, etc. are our interests.

Definitely spend the time in Nice. This will be a great way to relax at the end of a busy tour but still have tons to do if you want. The weather will be nice (not too hot yet) and the crowds don't start til the end of June/beg July so it is a great time to be there. You can take a day trip into Italy by train or car, visit Monaco, Eze, St Paul de Vence, take a drive into the Alps and/or just explore NIce. This is just a tiny bit of what you can do.

As others have said, Nice has a lot to offer and there are plenty of opportunities for quick day trips when you want to get out of the city. My wife and I and our adult daughter spent five nights there and still didn't even come close to seeing everything on our list. Train and bus service along the coast is frequent and cheap. There is bus service to nearby hilltop villages.
