Help with Trains

My family of 6 (2 adults and 4 children ages 6, 6, 13, and 15) will be traveling to Europe this Summer. Our itinerary is:

Paris - 4 nights
Switzerland (Luzern, Wengen)- 6 nights
Vienna, Austria - 4 nights

I need help figuring out the best way and most economical way to travel by train. I know in Switzerland kids basically travel free but then if we go that route is appears we can't take advantage of some of the discounts for France and Austria. It's very confusing. Can someone offer some guidance on this.

Hi divinedaze,

I don't know anything about the discounts for France and Austria, but I don't know why a Swiss Family Pass would impact on travel in the other two countries -- ??

Anyway, you may want to go to www.railsaver.com, input your itinerary and the travellers' information, then click on "only if it saves me money." It will give you an estimation of the point-point tickets (even international ones) and then tell you which pass will save you money.

Good luck!

Hi D,

If you are going to Switzerland, then you have to go from Paris to Vienna via CH.

What discounts would you be losing?

We would be going to Paris first, then Switzerland, then Vienna Austria. We will not be returning back to Paris to travel to Vienna. Its already a 10 hr train trip from Switzerland to Vienna.

Does anyone know anything about sleeper trains going from Switzerland to Vienna, Austria?

Hi D,

You can look up train schedules from all Swiss cities to Vienna at www.bahn.de or www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm.

Have you considered flying?
