Help with train from Como to Bologna
Ok, you have helped me get to Bellagio, now I have another question. I need to get to Bologna...can I take the train directly from Como to Bologna? I went on Trenitalias site and found Comom, but I was not certain of the station name. This is getting to be complicated and I thought that it would be so easy! Thanks Kathy

I think that you take a train to Milan Centrale, then change trains for Milan to Bologna (Appx 3 & 1/2 hrs).

For the most part you have to change in Milan, but the Cisalpino leaving at 11:05 will take you to Bologna without a change of train.
The time is 2-1/2 to 3 hours. |
The station used by the mainline trains (IC, CIS, etc) is Como S. Giovanni. It's on the hillside about 10 minutes walk west of the lake.
The station in Como center, right on lakeside is Como N. Lago. It's only served by the Ferrovie Nord regional train to Milano Cardonia; no train from there to Centrale. |
You can get to Centrale from the Cadorna station on the Milan Metro.

I would go to S. Giovanni. The commuter trains are slower (one hour vs as few as about 33 minutes), less comfortable, AND requires a subway ride.
