help with stay in rome n venice
 

we are planning a trip tp rome and then venice in june for 4-5 days with a toddler 2 years old. i know the duration is not very long, but thts all we can manage....where should we stay in these places, what is the best place so tht travelling to most attractions become simpler. pls help urgently as i need to book everything today.

The most central area with the best public transport connections in Rome is around the Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori and Piazza Navona, and it's a pleasant area.

The most central area in Venice is San Marco, but it's overpriced and overcrowded. I'd suggest looking for something near the Grand Canal in San Polo or Dorsoduro or in the parts of Cannaregio and Castello that are closer to San Marco.

In Rome, the Campo de Fiore area is very alive and colorful.
I have also stayed near the Vatican and near the Trevi, yet I would stay in the Campo again on my next visit.

In Venice I have stayed in Cannareggio,San Polo and Dursoduro,
I prefer Campo Santa Marguarita area of Dursoduro. Your little one could walk around the big square. there are shops and a grocery store right there.

We stayed near Termini station in Rome (easy access to the subway and bus station) and near Piazzale Roma in Venice. The flight to the U.S. from Venice is usually early morning and it only took us 5 minutes to walk from the B&B to catch the 4:40 a.m. bus. thankyou so very much. yes i have been thinking of campo di fiore for rome , and venice still confused...i would go for an apartment in both the places as it will give me the freedom with the little one. any suiggestions on aprtments in both the places. is 2 days each in both places good enough?

I would pick Rome or Venice but not both because of your short time frame. Personally, I would pick Venice, but I know others on this forum prefer Rome.

I think you might have a tough time finding a short-term (less than a week) apartment in Venice in the height of the season. Is it imperative that you stay in Rome and Venice? if you pick ONE then chances of an apartment increase a lot, esp. in Rome.

Frankly, the idea of changing hotels twice with a days travel in between in the heat and crush of Italy's biggest tourist season with a 2 year old sounds more like a disaster than a vacation.

But thats just me--a Mom whose been there and done that and paid the price...

I agree with artsbabe - choose Rome or Venice for this trip. Two days is just too short a time for each city. As for which to choose - Rome is amazing, great historical sites, art, food, etc. but it is a big city. Venice is awesome, so beautiful and a much smaller place. Base your decision on which place has the most appeal for you and go there. Then start planning another trip so you can go to the other city! Have fun!

It was a very nice apt. that I think would be suitable for a little one. The area was fine yet I prefer Dursoduro area but I have only stayed in hotel there.

The location couldnt have been better although im not sure about the toddler here.
