And San Sebastián is highly reommended in dozens of the world's major newsapers and travel magazines.

New York Times recently put the Calle 31 de Agosto in the Parte vieja/Old town, the only street that wasn't destroyed during the 1813 attacks, on their favourite streets in Europe list: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...eets.html?_r=0

And I hope and think San Sebastián can take the attention in the future also, as it has done since Spanish elites started to flock here in the mid 19th century. Tons of local identity and culture. As the lyrics in the 1861 San Sebastián March goes:

Sebastian bat ba da zeruan, Donosti bat bakarra munduan
hura da santua, eta hau da herria - horra zer dan gure Donostia!
(There is only one San Sebastián in heaven, and there is only one Donostia on arth
The first is a Saint, the other is the city, our San Sebastián!)

Here sung a capella by Leire, the then lead vocal in San Sebastián's extremely popular band La Oreja de van Gogh (van Gogh's ear): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unQc7KP66Hc

You're welcome krikopal -- and just to be clear, I had some very pleasant moments in San Sebastian / Donostia. I enjoyed it; I just didn't enjoy it as much as any other place I've been fortunate enough to visit in Spain -- and I absolutely adored so many other places in that country!

Even if I had loved it, though, I still don't know that I would recommend it for your purposes. As I see it, you are shortchanging everything you and your SO plan to visit; I think it would make more sense to give those places a bit more time than to add yet another place or two, places you can only see by shortchanging them, too. JMO.

Good luck with your decisions!
