Help with Solo travel on Thello overnight train to Paris

Has anyone travelled in a solo cabin on Thello?

Is this possible or would I have a bunkmate?

I am not interested in the couchettes. I would prefer a single sleeper cabin.

How do you ensure that you are the only one in the sleeper cabin?

Thank you!

As I understand it you would have to buy the extra space. I saw somewhere... I think on seat61.com that you create a "fake" ticket by putting the name of one of your party on twice. The example was for a party of 3 wanting to be in a 4 seat couchette.

Can anyone confirm?

The Thello website shows one person cabin.

ManinSeat61 has a video of the train and shows 1,2 3 bed compartments in addition to the couchettes.

On the Thello website they show all the details about cabin options. As I understand it, when you pay the highest fare, you get a 3 berth cabin to yourself; for two people occupation only you pay a lesser fare per person, and when you pay the lowest fare then you can expect to have 3 people sleeping in your cabin.

Paying the single or double occupancy fares also entitles you to breakfast in the dining car at no extra cost.

Does anyone know if fares are discounted for early bookings, in the way that PREMS fares are on the TGV? Di

From Maninseat61:

**That's one-way per person per berth, with berths sold individually, no need to book a whole compartment.***

AFAIK there isn't a discount on the cabins, only on the couchettes.

>>>Is this possible or would I have a bunkmate?<<

If you wanted to pay the cheaper 2 person cabin rate, you could get assigned a bunkmate (if there is someone else booking the same way). It would be a risk you take.

Y3S - What is your destination? It's much faster/cheaper to fly EasyJet from Paris Orly. EasyJet flies to Rome, Pisa, Venice, Milan and flight time is about 2 hours or a little more.

Thank you for the advice and clarification regarding a solo cabin on Thello. If I pick this route, I wanted to make sure that I do not have a bunkmate.

My plan is to travel from Florence to Paris. The affordable flights from Florence arrive later than I would prefer. To arrive in Paris before 18:00/6pm, it looks like my options are to take the Thello, or to take the train to Milan, stay the night and travel the next morning via TGV or Easy Jet.

I am trying to balance time and cost. Any advice?

Thank you!

You can fly EasyJet Pisa/Paris Orly departing 1pm and arriving a little after 2:30. There is a shuttle bus from Florence to Pisa airport for 5€. Random dates in June are around 40€ for EasyJet.

Looking at month long fares for June, it's more like 45€-60€. A checked bag is 15€. Most budget airlines are strict about carry on and checked sizes/weights. Be sure you comply.
