Help with Slovenia/Croatia itin
 

Hello I would like some advice on my itinerary. We are planning to spend 12 nights in these 2 countries plus 5 nights in Munich and Salzburg. I got ff miles but they got us only to Munich and back from Dubrovnik. So I planned that we spend 3 nights in Munich and then rent a car and drive to Salsburg. After 2 nights in Salburg, I planned:
Everything by car..
Bled 2 nights
Ljublana 2 nights
Istria 2-3 nights (cannot decide where to stay - Slovenian part - Piran or Portoroz or Croatian - Rovinj) Any advice? Seems like no interesting places to stay in Piran/Portoroz.
Split 2 nights
Dubrovnik 3 nights. (day trip to Montenegro or Mostar)
Drop the car.
Fly from Dubrovnik

Any other suggestions? MY husband is having some difficulty to walk on uneven surfaces and also hard to carry bags so we usually stay in cities and use private guides or drive in countryisde. Prefer not to use trains or planes.


The problem I am having with car rental that dropoff fee if we pick it up in Munich and dropoff in Dubrovnik is 800 eur!!
We also tried to use 2 rentals but even Slovenia and Croatia rental there is a dropoff fee between countries.

What to do? I am consiering to have 3 rentals but I need to get somehow from Salzburg to Slovenia and then to Istria...

Also, does anyone can recommend good sobe in noth countries? We do not mind paying for really nice comfortable apartment with kitchen so we can sample local produce instead of eating in restaurants 3 times per day.

i've been often in slovejia cause it's quite near for a holiday abroad with car.
i loved bled but i loved much more lubjiana. it's so beautiful city!
it remebers me of vienna.
if you can't find something nice in portroz zone (i've been there too and i didn't find it really nice...too touristic, not so beautiful sea...)you can give a look to otocec

there are different hotels and even nice bungalow if you prefer, it's quite unexpensive (apart from the castle) but you have access to thermal pools (2 min. by car), you can book a lunch in a farm in the zone, you can have nice walks in the nature expecially on the little island between the river where the castle is.
no hard walks, no matter of parking, easy to find by car, near novo mesto city...
i've spent nice weeks there.

I love Vienna. I will spend 2 nights in Ljublana and 2 nights in Bled. Also, we love thermal spas! We went to thermal spas in Karlovy Vary (Czech rep) and Budapest. Thanks for reminding. I will look at Otocec.

But that would take me far from Istria? Or should I forego Istria and from Otoce go to Split area?

We are interested in islands and sea scenery but not beaches. We live in FL with wonderful beaches!

I think I solved my dilemma with car dropoff. I will take private transfer by car from Salzburg to Bled and rent a car there. Dropoff somewhere close to Croatian border and will take a taxi or private driver or maybe even train (although donot want to drag luggage) to Croatia.

yeah otocec is on the main way between lubjiana and zagabria (croatia)
60 km from both.
it's not on the istrian way.
