I hope you stop in Dresden too. It has so many interesting places to see that I'm sure you'll find something that you like. Anyway, I recommend you research Dresden a bit, for in case you have a bad weather day while in the Saxon Switzerland getting a train to Dresden and enjoying 1 or 2 of its great museums may be the best rainy day option.

Ingo, we are planning to take a train from Prague and spend 3 nites in Saxon Switzerland in early July. the hiking and the river trips are enticing. hopefully there won't be a heatwave. we want easy walks and the river!
we won't have a car. where do you suggest staying? town? hotel? the reviews for Hotel Elbresidenz are pretty bad.
