Help with SEARCH function

I dutifully typed in "twin city liner" as a search, looking for info on the hydrofoil between Vienna & Bratislava. No results. But when I type in "hydrofoil" with the city names, there are numerous helpful posts mentioning the Twin City Liner.

And thank you to anyone who illuminates!

Search will find only what is there. If nobody used a particular combination of words (such as twin city liner) then the search function has nothing to find.

Did you read through the threads you found, and find the term Twin City Liner?

I only looked at a couple of the finds you get when you do hydrofoil and vienna, and the reason you didn't get them is because no one used the term "twin city liner".

As a search tip, you should try to make things as simple as possible, I would advise. I search very well, but even though you can find things the way you finally did it, you are still overcomplicating things unnecessarily. For example, you don't need to add both city names, clearly hydrofoil and bratislava would have done it. That is one of the biggest mistakes peopole make when searching, putting in too many words, along with too-specific phrases, like your first attempt. The search tool works best, the fewer the words, I have found. In fact, I'm not sure it even works if you type in four or more words that you want simulaneously checked (using the word AND between them).

To search fodors forums I use google search engine - it is often better indexed than fodors own internal search.

In a google search box type "hydrofoil vienna site:fodors.com" or "twin city liner site:fodors.com"

Padraig, thanks for responding.
Yes, the words appear in that sequence many times - e.g. in Molker's reply in the thread http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34941374

And goodness, Padraig, I now see you also added info to that same thread, using the term "twin city liner!"
So you've helped me twice today already...

nyse, let's hope my information on the twin city liner is more accurate than what I expected of the search function on this forum!

J62 might have the answer: that the indexing on Fodor's is less than perfect.
