Help with Scotland travel problem

We have rented a self catering house in Abernathy Scotland for April 26 through May 3 and then have rented a cottage in Carmarthan Wales for the week of May 3 through May 10, our provlem is we are traveling from NJ, Boston and Charlotte NC and want to hook up in london to take the train to Perth. We enjoyed the train ride from London to Edinburgh so much we thought we would do this again to relax after the flight and enjoy the ride, however we have discovered that we will not be landing in the same airport and will have to meet at the RR station, we must get a train that will get us into Perth before 5pm so we can pick up our car rental. Would it be best to fly directly into Scotland? and if so which airport is closest to Perth? We will be returning to the States from London. Any suggestions are welcome.

Scot Airways flies from London City airport to Dundee, which is the closest airport to Perth. If you want to fly from Heathrow or Gatwick, you will likely be limited to flying into Edinburgh or Glasgow.

check out Ryan Air from London. We had a very pleasant experience recently. It is very similar to Southwest Airlines based in Dallas. No frills just efficiency. The prices are very cheap and, even though the train ride is beautiful it seems you are restricted by time and logistics. Ryanair.com should get you to the info.

Can you fly into Gatwick? You can get an Easy Jet flight (several each day) from Gatwick to Edinburgh for as little as 6.50 pounds this far ahead!!
Sure beats going to the other airports.

The budget airlines are OK but it's well worth checking out the British Airways on-line booking system www.ba.com - it's abit more expensive than the budgets but more frequent service. Fly into Edinburgh from both Heathrow and Gatwick. Ryanair is from Stansted which is no good for US arriving flights.

On your other thread there were several answers about the train logistics from LHR and LGW to Scotland. Now you have added the kicker about needing to be in Perth before 5PM. If you had included this info we probably would have steered you towards flying on that thread.

But my suggestion - do not even try to coordinate everyone to get to Perth at the same time. It will be a comlpicated mess. Whoever in the group is landing at LGW should take Easy Jet to Edinburgh and the train to Perth to pick up the car. Everyone else can take their own sweet time getting there - flying from LHR or the train from Kings Cross.

Abernethy is only a short drive (less than 8 miles) from the Perth train station which is on the south central side of the city and easy to get to. So you can easily drive back to Perth from your cottage to pick up the LHR contingent when they get there.

On the assumption that "Abernathy" is Abernethy and it's Abernethy, on the Tay rather than Abernethy on teh Spey, then the best airport is Edinburgh, but the public transport links from there to Perth are shocking, so if you're going to fly in there, get your car there too. Abernethy is, in any case, between Edinburgh and Perth.

Have a good trip. It's on the patch where I was brought up, so feel free to come back for more help.
