Help with Salzburg itinerary
Hi there,
I am trying to plan an itinerary for Salzburg and would really appreciate some help. Our family (5 of us!) will be there 5-8 July (4 days, 3 nights) and I've booked accomodation at Haus Ballwein which was recommended by board members here.
Here's my draft itinerary: 5 July: Arrive from Prague via overnight train n straight into Sound of Music tour (cheesy I know but we love the movie) then rest of the day walk around Salzburg. 6 July: Day trip out to Bertschgaden (maybe Bob's tour?) - to see Lake Konigsee and salt mines. 7 July: Day trip out to Werfen to see ice caves (AM) and the falconry show (PM) 8 July: Our flight is in the evening. Any suggestions for this day?
My friend suggested that we should go to Wolfgangsee and get the train from St Wolfgang up to Shafsburg mountain, which she said had really beautiful scenery. But would it be too rushed to squeeze this in on the last day? Or should we do it after the Sound of Music tour? (but this would mean not seeing Mondsee, as the tour goes through St Gilgen - Mondsee then back to Salzburg). Also does my itinerary seem too packed?
Our priorities are: to see beautiful scenery and take things at quite a relaxed pace. Some non-strenous scenic walks/hiking would be nice too. Can anyone offer any comments or suggestions? Thank you very much!!

Hi bob, I was thinking of taking Bob's Tours http://www.bobstours.com/som.htm
Apparently it's not as bad as the rest...it's only in small buses up to 8 people and got some good feedback on this forum..

I have heard Bob's is ok.
But the whole thing is done for American tourists. Others don't give a rip about it.
Schloss Hellbrunn attracts a lot of people of all types. The fountains are fun, if you don't mind a little water.
The Festspielhaus is a good place to take the behind the scenes tour. We wen and did not regret it. Most interesting. It was of course very vital to the SOM.
Unless Bob's tour is outstanding, you can do as much of a SOM tour on your own because many of the places are privately owned and not open to the public.
And don;t be surprised at the famous gazebo. It is small and not very attractive. Years of neglect have not done it much good.
