Help with Rome accomodations

My fiance & I will be spending the last 4 nights of our 16 day honeymoon in Rome, and are trying to find accomodations. We aren't looking for anything fancy since we will be pretty tapped out by the end, so are just more interested to find something in a good area with some nightlife & restaurants around but close enough to the big attractions. I've heard the Spanish Steps area is a great area & convenient to everything? Does anyone have any suggestions about the best areas to stay or hotels? We are definitely hoping to stay under the $200 range.

Thanks so much!

Well, some people love the Spanish Steps area and then others (like me) don't understand the appeal.

Anywhere in the central city area of Rome is convenient to everything with a 20-30 minute walk. Personally, I prefer the Campo dei Fiori area which is central in that it is a 20 minute walk to the Vatican, 20 to the Colosseum, and everything else is closer. Piazza Navona is 5 minutes away, the Pantheon and Della Rotunda area are 10 minutes away. Trastevere is 5-10 minutes away.

The Campo is also more reasonable price-wise than the Spanish Steps area.

I agree with postal. The historical center is handy for all you will be looking for. Do a search above for Rome hotels or check out Tripadvisor for more info.

Good luck and congratulations!

Postal, you must walk really fast as in flying! I, too, like the Campo dei Fiori area (stayed there last year). But, no way did we walk to the areas you mention in such a short time. Took a taxi to the Vatican. Granted, I'm not a super fast walker but.... I didn't either find the Spanish Steps area appealing.

Check out the Relais Banchi Vecchi. It's in the Campo dei Fiori area and is charming and well priced.

Dear Sunshine:

PS: We stayed at the Hotel Due Torri, near the Piazza Navona.

Sunshine:
We stayed at Hotel Parlamento. Nice, basic hotel, good location between historic center and Sp Steps. Search on my name and you'll find my trip report.

Ask if the terrace rooms are available. They were under construction when we were there in January.
