For good hotel deals in these cities you might be better off trying petrabax.com, bancotel.com, or solmelia.com. I've used priceline in other cities, but when we were in Madrid last May, had no luck with them there, but maybe others have had adifferent experience?

For priceline informations try the site www.biddingfortravel.com
All infos about which hotels in which areas for priceline are available. Also you can get an strategy for bidding at priceline and the last bids in priceline for every city.
Hope it works for you because it helped me a lot.
Also in tripadvisor.com you can find latest reviews for hotels all over the world.

I second the recommendation of solmelia.com . I got an excellent deal that included breakfast for a very central 4* hotel in Madrid. It was better than the deals I've seen on BiddingforTravel.com in this respect.

I think the zones in both Madrid and Barcelona are not that conveniently set up for tourists. There are many good budget options and many reasonable prices on good hotels, so I'd recommend not using Priceline on this one (unless you want a 5* hotel).

Hi

Old Madrid is the Puerta del Sol area. I stayed here and it is an excellent location for sightseeing and a short walk to Plaza de Oriente. For your budget try these three hotels

Europa Hotel: http://www.hoteleuropa.net/

The Hispano-Argentino Hostel: http://www.hispano-argentino.com/

Moderno Hotel: http://www.hotel-moderno.com

Good luck
