Help with prepaid long-distance phone cards in Italy
The last time I traveled to Italy I had a terrible time trying to get the phone card I purchased in the States to work when calling home. Is there a certain brand that I can purchase from home or in Italy that will work as I will be going back in May. Any suggestions on where to purchase such a card would be appreciated.

The Italian phone cards for use in the pay phones purchased at the Tobacchi are the best way to go you just have to remember you have to break off the top corner to fit and activate them for use in the pay phones. ask the seller how to use it .

Yes, definitely wait till you get to Italy to buy your card. And, don't be surprised if you run into more than one kind. There are ones where you break off the corner. And, there's another kind we ran into. I've forgotten the details about how it worked, but I can tell you we figured it out quickly. Without having to be proficient in Italian. Not to worry!

Well my trip is complete so I'm responding to my own post. The best card to have is purchased from a tabbachi store and it's called insieme. It was 5 euros and you get 120 minutes international calling from the hotel room. The one I first purchased that you use on the pay phone and break off the corner was 5 euros also but only lasted for about 10 minutes. I did use that one for calling other places in Italy, but for international calls it was too expensive.

Hi,
Sisal has an even better offer, calling from a fixed phone you can talk 350min for 10e. This Enacard can be purchased from all the tabacchi stores. It's a simple slip of paper, not a "card". It works through an access number and is simple to use. Service is also available in English. For more information and prices http://www.edicard.eutelia.it/
