hi JACould you send me the website
for the castle hotel you are referring to? Thanks natjgc |
As far as where to stay when visiting Ludwig's castle, you basically have 2 choices - the town of Fussen is the closest actual town - about 5 minutes away, or you can stay at the foot of the mountain that the castle is on in the town of Hohenschwangau (there is a group of hotels there but little else). I recommend Fussen because it is a nice site to visit in itself with many more dining and lodging options.

Hi,
We have decided to just visit Worms and then drive to Rothenberg to spend the night. Any suggestions on where to stay in Rothenberg?? Sorry to keep writing but all of your ideas are terrific and it's really helping us decide and where to go on this trip. Also. has anyone ever stayed at the Hotel Oprera in Munich? Mixed reviews on trip advisior and it is sketchy as to if there is AC and a shower but the location looked great and the hotel looked very nice. We would like a 4* with air and a good location ( walkable).. Any ideas as to where to stay in both Rothenberg and Munich would be greatly appreciated. natjgc |
natjgc, do a search for Rothenburg and you will find many hotel recommendations from your fellow Fodorites.
We have stayed at the Roter Hahn on several occasions and find the location great and the room rates very reasonable. http://www.rothenburg-online.de/cgi-...Accomondations |
BettyK,
Thanks so much for the website. I will work on it today. Have you been to Munich? natjgc |
I have been to Munich but it was so very long ago as to not be much help. It was on one of our first trips to Europe in the late 1970's. We haven't returned though because, while we enjoyed the visit, to me it is just another big city and we now prefer to see the smaller towns and villages and countryside of Germany.

i understand.. Thanks for the info.

The Eisenhut Hotel is quite lovely and a well regarded four star hotel in Rothenburg. Located in the center of town it is convenient to everything. We had lunch at the Eisenhut in November and walked throughout the town with ease.

In Rothenburg we stayed at the Gasthof Goldener Greifen. Loved it! Rooms were large and bright. Large bathroom too. Restaurant downstairs served a great breakfast and was open for lunch and dinner. Would highly recommend it.

I will check into both of these hotels. Thanks
