Help with paying convent in Rome

This may seem trite, but I want to know the easiest/best way to pay a deposit to Casi di Santa Francesca, Rome. They have asked me to send them a deposit of 175 euros by bank to their bank account with my name and dates of lodging. Do I simply go to my bank and wire the money to them since they do not accept credit cards? I've never had this request before. But, then I've never stayed in a convent before either. Thanks.

My parents quite often stay in the convent that's near Campo di Fiori and that's what they do, go to the bank and wire the money. Don't be surprised if you have a little bit of trouble initially, though. Banks don't wire money very often (at least the Florida banks where my parents are!) and they might need to look up the procedure.

and it will be expensive - probably $35-$40 when all the fees are totaled.

Be sure to have your bank mark that you will accept all fees.
We just wired money to Vienna last week to hold an apartment. The fee was $30 USD to send the transfer (fortunately refunded to us by our credit union), but the Bank of Austria imposed an 18€ fee on the apartment owners to accept the transfer. We weren't aware there were fees on both ends of the equation.

Mermaid, janis, and TexasAggie--thanks for the info. So, off I go tomorrow to wire the euros.

Glad to know others are aware of this method of payment too. I think the convent will be a great place to stay. It looks fine on the website and is a bit cheaper than the traditional lodgings I had been looking at.

Extra fees--that's all I need!!

Oh well, it's only money!
