help with paris apartment
thanks to all the help i have received on this forum and after having waded through hundreds maybe thousands of apartments listed, i have finally come down to these 3.
i will be in paris for the 1st time in april with my teen daughter for 8 nights. please, could you help me in selecting one??? vrbo #174027 vrbo #75429 vacation in paris #122 (great report from guenmai) all 3 sounds wonderful. the 1st two are in the 4th a short distance from the siene and the last one in in the 6th. many thanks! |
Well, I realize this isn't much help but after going through a very similar search, I have made reservations for vrbo#75429 in May. I stayed in the 4th last year, close but not in this exact neighborhood. I loved the area and found it much quieter than the 6th.

You will find Jim Braude has many places..most, or all, in the Marais. He lives in Atlanta and very easy to deal with.
You couldn't go wrong with him. This is the #75429....he has others similar, too. Enjoy your search, and stay.. |
Joan, thanks for that affirmation. That's what I thought but it's nice to hear it from you.

I'll be staying in VIP #122 next month and have done some preliminary work on the neighborhood shopping. There is a bank, a laundromat, a Picard, boulangerie all quite close. The transport options are great . We've always stayed in the 6th so know many great restaurants in walking distance.
I'll be sure to post when we return and will take some additional pictures for you. |
Just got back from renting an apt. on Ille St. Louis.
All of your choices are in great locations close to the Seine. IMO the 2 in the 4th would be quieter, and the Buci is quite lively. Personally, I liked #122--looks great. The street entertainment is great on St. Michelle and also in Notre Dame Plaza especially on Fri. & Sat. nights after 9-10pm. Have a great trip. You and your daughter will love Paris. |
thanks for the input.
gracejoan3, i did speak to jim and he sounds really nice and very helpful. louisah, if i do end up at 75429, i will post with some more info avalon and tpayt, guenmai had posted very favourably for #122 and it is bigger than the other 2. all the choices seem so good. i should just toss a coin! |
We will be staying at VRBO #56871 in two months. The owner has been great to work with (even allowing us to use $ for the deposit, even though she lives in Europe!)
|
back2sabi,
you are lucky you were able to use $$$. i am dreading the rate in april. 56871 is a gorgeous apt. unfortunately, it was taken for about 4 of the days that i am in paris. :( |
Since you are considering an apartment on St. Andres des Arts, I can recommend the one we stayed at last year with our teen grandsons.
It's also on St. Andres des Arts, just inside the gates of Couer de Commerce. I can tell you it's a fantastic location, especially when traveling with a teen. You're a 5 - 10 minute walk from Notre Dame, the Louvre, the street musicians at Place St. Michel, plus all of the wonderful little food shops and cafes. The apartment we stayed in is the owner's home, but she has been away a lot and rents it out when she's gone. Our guys slept in the good-size living room and we took the bedroom. There's a lift (yay!) and the views from the large windows are like paintings. The website is www.perfectplaces.com/vacation-rentals/24752.htm I think I have her cell # somewhere in my trip-planning papers, if you should be interested. Whatever you decide, I know you'll have a fantastic time! |
Hi there. I agree with the comments on working with Jim. The owner of the second VRBO (75429). He called almost as soon as my inquiry was sent. Jim was a joy to speak with and even gave me tips on what to expect and what to look out for when renting an apartment in Paris.
I've been in touch with one of the owners of your first VRBO (174027). He was prompt in responding to my initial inquiry, sent a photo of the views from the unit as I requested and later e-mailed me a copy of the rental agreement for my review. Right now, I'm leaning toward one of the unit's Jim manages/owns because of the customer service, history of favorable reviews from Fodorites and others, and size of the units. Plus having the concierge service from the hotel could come in handy. That said, I do think the floorplan in the VIP unit would be nice for a mother-daughter trip. When my mom and I travel on our annual mother-daughter trip, (went to Montreal and Quebec City this year - beautiful) we usually opt for the place with as much space as possible within our budget. Sorry, I've probably not helped in your decision making process, but you're right about the appeal each apartment offers. They do indeed look very appealing. How soon will you be booking? So excited for you. Our trip is about three months after yours... |
i did toss a coin so to speak about all 3 apartments!
although i loved both the places in the marais, i have finally decided on vip #122. the main reason for my choice? - being able to pay in $$ on my credit card esp. with the uncertainty of the euro. thanks for all the input. next, i will be asking for itinerary help. |
abranz:
I went with VIP earlier this year for the same reason -- to pay USD and not to worry about the fluctuating exchange rate. We did not stay in #122, but we did stay right around the corner from there, off of Rue de Buci. You will love this neighborhood. There is everything you will ever need within very short walking distance. Don't know if anyone mentioned it, or if you even need it, but there is an internet cafe in the Haagen Dazs on Rue de Buci. We didn't want to haul a laptop, and found this to be very convenient. Enjoy your visit! |

shelly_m,
thanks for the tip on the internet access. i was debating about lugging around a laptop and since mine is a mac, wasn't sure if it would be compatible with the internet service. 185 days to go and i can hardly stand it!!!! |
abranz - I was searching for info on the 14th arr. and found your earlier post.
Did you decide against using your friend's apartment there? |
ChicagoDallasGirl
i did give up on staying in the free apartment in the 14th. there was some re-modelling/construction planned and i did not want to take a chance that it would not be finished by the time we arrived. i think dd and i will probably have more fun in the 6th anyway since it is our first time there. |
