joan, glad to see you are feeling better!
Also glad you enjoyed the Zum Baeren. It's just the kind of place that we like -- historic, comfortable and great service. And the fact that the restaurant turns out such amazing food is certainly a plus!
And, it's within our budget!

In Munich we stayed in a studio, the plan was to stay somewhere with a washing machine. I will not bore you with a long story but the apartment we ended up in did not have a machine but we did find a laundry and dry cleaners! The studio was booked through Alex at www.munich-appartments.com, very helpful. The studio was 2 minutes from a UBann station, the three day travel ticket was very good value. Saw all the usual things but unfortunately missed the Schloss Nymphenburg. The Virtuelienmarkt was was great. The weather was very hot and we spent an enjoyable Sunday afternoon in the Englischer Garten in the beer garden near the Chinese Pagoda.
Go to the Hofbrauhaus but don't eat there. We ate at Ayingers which is just opposite the Hofbrauhaus, very enjoyable about 50 Euros for two courses for two people. We also ate at Weisses Brauehaus, quite an experience, traditional food in a traditional atmosphere. I can't remember the name of another place which was very good! Couldn't find the Hofer that was recommended until after we had eaten.
Next it was Saltzburg,on the way we stopped off at Bavaria's largest lake, Chiemsee, very attractive and again good weather so we could have a picnic lunch.
In Saltzburg we stayed at Am Moos, wonderful value and great hosts. We left the car and took the bus into town 4 Euros I think. The Sternbraeu brewery which was recommended by someone was very average but I can't remember the name of the quirky place we found. We did a walking tour around Saltzburg which took most of the day, going up the funicular to the fortress and looking around took several hours We didn't go on the Sound of Music Tour.We bought Mozart 'chocolate balls' at Schatz reputed to be the best in town,it's near Universitasplatz.Salzsburg was not as attractive as I had expected but renovation work going on in a couple of place.I would like to see it in winter when it must be very pretty.
Next stop Berchtesgadener Land...
