The Connaught is a bargain for the money, I never knew it would be so cheap!

It's the most accomodating hotel, as well as The Meridien Piccadilly who will also give you a good deal, but it's not such a luxe property.

Covent Garden? I've no idea why you'd want to stay there, it's most unpleasant.

Why not Charing Cross/The Strand, right off Trafalgar Square. From here you have a very comfortable/easy walk (or if you prefer, a very, very short taxi drive) to the theatres, Picadilly Circus and beyond (pretty decent shopping), Buckingham, Embankment (for a beautiful sunset view of Big Ben and Parliament), London Eye, a bunch of museums/restaurants, and even the "most unpleasant" Covent Garden (I too think it's overrated). IN fact, it doesn't get any more central than that, as I believe Charing Cross is the point from which mileage is calculated in London. I've stayed at the Thistle hotel at Charing Cross (there's another one within also walking distance but in a side street, not as busy transit area) right off Trafalgar. Quite nice 4-star(but not luxurious), for about $215 USD per night.

Sounds like you have ideas on hotels. I have found that londontown.com will usually have great rates available. Check them out !

Was doing some more looking around and found The Cranley in South Kensington for £130 per night. The reviews look good. Any opinions?

The Cadogan in Sloane St. might be quite helpful, but email The Connaught again, persist and they will drop their rate.

I must've emailed at least fifty properties this week, and I am still in negotiations/awaiting responses, so I will shortly post a report on the cheapest properties in London (4 star superior or better).
