Help with Lake Como Area
We are planning a trip this summer to Italy with our 2 daughters ages 7 and 9. We are thinking of spending 5 nights in the Lake Como area and 4 nights in Venice. I am thinking that my daughters would probably enjoy a bigger hotel with a pool on the lake versus a smaller property. My husband and I stayed at Lake Como many moons ago and it is beautiful but way over our budget at this point. We are looking at the Hotel Britannia Excelsior or the Grand Hotel Cadenabbia. Any thoughts on these properties? Or other resorts?
For Venice I am wondering if staying at the Lido might be an option or if you have any other thoughts there. I am sure it will be very hot in August. Thank you so much! Laura |
Do not reco staying on the Lido for several reasons:
There is a beach there but it's not very pleasant (can be polluted) You are a fairly lengthy vaporetto ride from the main part of Venice with all the major sights The Congress center is on the Lido and if there is a large meeting on you may find there are so many people you have to wait for 2 or 3 vaporetti before there is one with room for you (so can easily take more than an hour to get to the main part of venice) If you can manage a hotel with a pool is much better than the Lido |
Thank you for your reply. it is very helpful.do have recommendations of hotels in Venice for us with the kids...

Lake Como, Bellagio, Grand Hotel Serbelloni has a pool.

What's your budget in Venice? Lido is cheaper, which is maybe why you're considering it.

Hi there, The reason I was thinking about the Lido is because it is a nice respite from Venice in August. Perhaps the best idea would be to stay in Venice in a hotel with a pool. Any thoughts? Cipriani is out of uour price range. Has anyone stayed at the Clemente, Marriott or Hotel Georgione?
