Lexma90 - thanks so much for your info/insights. I don't mind staying slightly out of town in great bed & breakfasts, and I've found a few that look lovely. I'm a very early riser so even staying outside the towns, I'm generally up early (too excited to sleep late on vacation!) and start my day by 7ish.

What I love most is small towns that time seems to have forgotten. One of my favorite vacations was a week in the Cotswalds because of the darling small towns and villages.

Food...I'm game to try anything. I don't have a particular favorite type of French food. If the meal includes cheese, I'm a happy gal!
