Thank you so much.. I have been away from the site this past week..I have been giving myself RSI and brain pains trolling thru Tripadvisor trying to work out accommodation... just thrive on deadlines... NOT!
Thankyou 'love-travel' for the history..I feel ashamed at not knowing that 25 april was also significant in france.. Our school trip also started out as a trip to compete in a 'choir olympics' in Venice. The history kids and the spanish classes wanted to join in. Unfortunately not all the choir members could make it so they have withdrawn from the competition . The school also decided not to change the date of the musical which occurs whilst we are away..(cant figure that one out most of the singers and teachers wont be there). I hope you dont mind if i pass your reply on to the teacher(head of performing arts) who is leading the trip.
Palenque I am now off to look up the castle way.. My Husband insists on driving that day we have booked at Rothenburg the first night....Should warn everyone to get off the road!! Have been going crazy trying to work out trains and itinery in Switzerland.. so much to see so little time.
Beware there is still a bucket load of questions I have to ask

Hi carmi_m I am very happy for you to pass on any information and will help with any other questions you might have.
It is a huge effort to organise so if your teacher would like to make contact feel free to let me know an email address I can respond to.
Relax and enjoy some of the planning - it will be an amazing experience - the whole thing.

note that the Castle Road route may be the prettiest between Frankfurt/Heidelberg and Rothenbburg but it is not the quickest, which would be autobahns, about half of which still do not have speed limits - mappy.com gives road travel times
Why not stay in Heidelberg the first night - one of Germany's finest towns and the rare one not decimated in WWII - the castle of your dreams pops out of town
next morning catch the Neckar River hugging Castle Road that goes thru here and takes you to Rothenburg - that would make a leisurely day along the Neckar stopping in some of the gems of old towns lining this historic transit route.
