Help with itinerary for first swiss trip

My husband, my 4 year old daughter and I are visiting switzerland for the first time later this month.

Our current itinerary plan is as follows:

land in zrh
3 days in wengen - bernese oberland
2 days in lugano
2 days in luzern/zurich area before we fly back out of zrh

we like to have active holidays but do not like to rush around from one place to another.

can someone give some ideas on whether this itnerary is too cramped, or are we seeing too little in switzerland or any other ideas for a first switzerland trip?

thanks!

I love Lugano and the canton of Ticino, but for a first trip to Switzerland, I think you might enjoy dividing your time between the Berner Oberland and Lucerne/Zurich. J.

I like it--perfect for your first trip.

Thanks both of you for the information.

I say that you are seeing far too little. However, with the limited time you have on hand I say that you are getting to see a good amount of Switzerland. If I were you I would skip the Bernese Oberland (not really skip it but...) and go to Gstaad (which is on the border between the Canton of Vaud and the Bernese Oberland), see Lac Leman (or Lake Geneva as the Swiss call it) in the city of Montreux which is absolutely gorgeous during the summer time and then try to see either Gruyere, Neuchatel or Berne, all of which are an hour or two south of Basel by train.

If you would like anymore information feel free to email me.

I just came back from Switzerland last week. I think your itinerary sounds fine. I would suggest staying in Luzern instead of Zurich. It's only about an hour from Luzern to the Zurich airport and very easy to do so no reason to stay in Zurich.

I think Lugano will be nice, and it should be a beautiful train ride, but if you decide you don't want the long(ish) train ride, you could spend a couple of days on Lake Thun which is closer and very nice.
