Help with Italian Honeymoon
I'm starting to plan our honeymoon (Oct 2001). We know we would like to return to Rome, but would also like to spend 2-3 days in the Naples/Campania area. My problem is that so many of the potential towns (Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, etc) sound nice, but small. Naples seems too big to contrast with Rome. We prefer sightseeing to beachcombing, so a town with some city life is more appealing, although having a beach available would certainly be a plus.
If anyone can recommend "the perfect place" for October, I thank you for your help.

Though it's not warm enough in early October to go to the beach in early October, I strongly recommend Lake Como, staying in the town of Bellagio! It's beautiful, romantic and, I would think perfect for a honeymoon!

Josh,

As long as you're going to Rome and only have 2 - 3 days, why not stay in the Naples area. It's close enough to Rome to keep travel to a minimum. There's plenty to see - you could stay in Ravello or Positano - take day trips to Naples and Pompeii, and there is a beach available. I just returned from Naples for the 2nd time and really like it a lot.

Although Lake Como is gorgeous, it's quite a trip from Rome.

Let me know if you want additional information.

Dona is right. The Lake Como area would be too far. I missed his mention of 2-3 days.
Her suggestion of either Ravello or Positano is a good one. I can recommend a beautiful hotel in Positano right at the beach--the Cove dei Saraceni. It's address is:
Via Regina Giovanna, 5
84017 Positano, Italy
Phone: 089/875400
Fax: 089/87578
Thank you both for your help. Any other info is appreciated.

We went to Italy for our honeymoon last November 20 - flew into Rome and went straight to Positano - wouldn't do that again - we were so exhausted that we couldn't stay awake to make sure we got off at the right stop on the train! Our cab driver told us that Naples is not the safest town - lot of thefts - so beware.

We did stay at the Hotel Covo dei Saraceni Positano - had an ocean front room - very nice w/ big balcony. Took the train to Venice from Naples and then Venice to Rome. At that time of year, Positano wasn't very busy - but we enjoyed it.
