P.S. Perhaps you should come to Scotland instead - I am back in my winter coat :-(

Sounds like a deal Caroline! I just looked at the thermometer on our patio...85 F degrees (just under 30 C) in the shade; it is not even 10:00 in the morning yet! This is exactly why going somewhere that is equally hot and humid is not so appealing!

Wren, are you sure about that ?
I just went & looked outside & we have diagonal rain. (3pm here) Time to book a taxi home, I think.

OK, Caroline...I suppose it is a little better here right now. The sun is shining, and though it is warm, it is a beautiful day! At least no diagonal rain! I do love Scotland, and a return is long overdue since I haven't been there since 1974!

Do not judge temps based on one year. Look at 20 year averages by location at weatherbase.com Anecdotes are fine but facts are better.

I recommend that you plan for the unusual. We were in Italy 2 summers ago when they (and all of Europe) set record highs. Our salvation in Rome was the apartment we had booked which happened to have it's own air conditioning. When everyone else was still suffering in their "rolling brown outs" and temps in the mid-80's, we slept like Eskimo's. We were able to handle the intense heat of the day by knowing that we'd sleep well that night. Plan ahead!

Our experience this June was "feels like" temperatures in the mid 90's in Venice.

Definitely hot & humid.

Thanks to Bob, and the rest of you for helpful responses. I will begin to research the places you have suggested. Based on what you are all saying, if we make it to Venice, get AC, and live the Italian lifestyle, then head further north, we will probably be ok.
