Help with hotel choice in BRUGES please!!
 

I will be booking my two night stay in June in Bruges in the next day or two. After much research, have narrowed it down to Relais Bourgonsdisch Cruyce, Hotel Prinsenhof and Grand Casselbergh. Would great appreciate any input that would help me with this decision.

All are more or less equally priced- key decision points are comfort, location, amenities.

Haven't stayed in any of those but just by location I'd definitely choose Relais Bourgonsdisch Cruyce

Thanks- and I definitely agree with you on location, as well as charm from what I can see on-line. They all sound wonderful. Its somewhat difficult making these admittedly wonderful decisions from afar, particularly not really understanding the geography of this lovely town. I also realize that that is pretty much the point of visting a place I've never been.

The primary difference is that the Cruyce for example doesnt have in-room coffee (which is a little bit of a problem for someone who pretty much needs a caffeine IV in the morning), an iron (and we will have just come from 5 nights in Amsterdam) and most,but not all rooms are air conditioned from what I gather.

Trying to decide whether I should just suck it up and enjoy what is arguably one of the most picturesque hotels around, or go with the Prinsenhof which offers both the additional amenities and a supposedly wonderful breakfast.

To those who are more familiar with Bruges and the hotels, thanks in advance for your help.

They all are in the center, I don't think the location of the Cruyce is superior -- I guess I'd say the Prisenhof is perhaps not quite as good as the other two, but the entire center is only about 1 km across. I actually think the Casselbergh location is better than the Cruyce, I wouldn't particularly want to be right on that canal nor near the tour boat location. Those two hotels are only a few blocks apart, though.

I've never been in a hotel in Europe that had an iron in the room, and not many in the US, either (except cheaper chain motels like Comfort Inn etc). Because if you have an iron, you have to have an ironing board, I would presume. I can't even remember the last time I used an iron, I never do when traveling, but I don't see that those two hotels you name say they have an iron on their website. In fact, booking.com claims the Cruyce has an iron in the room but not the other two. I gather you want to iron yourself as those hotels would certainly have ironing services. If you really want the Cruyce, they say they have 24/7 room service, so you could probalby get coffee served that way, although I wouldn't want to pay for that. The AC is clearly an amenity you choose or not, it goes with the room type in the Cruyce, and the price, so isn't an unknown.

It's a tough call, clearly two of them are a bit more modern than the Cruyce. I don't think the location matters that much but wouldn't sy the Cruyce was better on that point myself.

the majority of hotels I've stayed in Europe (except in Paris for some reason) have had irons. Not all of course but probably 60-70%

Being near the canal/boats would not bother me since they would be active/possibly noisy when one is out of the hotel during the day.

Just saw something in the paper this morning that may interest you; 1.160.372 people took a boat tour on the canals in Brugge last year. Most in August (189.122), and the least number in January (5.335).
In June it's light until after 10 pm. Don't know till what time the boats go in the evening.

I don't think irons in rooms are that common. Not all hotels have coffee making facilities either (in the UK most do, but don't think so in Belgium).

I did see the booking.com reference to the ironing facilities at the Cruyce as Chritina noted and honestly that's a very small thing in any case. Feel fortunate to have this problem so don't mean to sound whiny. Just indecisive and would love to lock this in now as June is high season and I can then get down to the business of itinerary planning.

End of June in Belgium can be very hot so AC is important if you are used to it.

Only time I ever slept in Brugge was 34 meters from the grote markt and I concur that the choice should be the location.

You would definitely have needed AC at the end of June 2015 with temperatures over 30 celsius. Middle of June, not so much.
