Help with Gstaad hotel

We plan to attend some matches at the Swiss Open (tennis) in Gstaad next year. I originally thought we would stay in Chateau d'Oex, which is highly recommended here. But after considering all the factors, I think the short amount of time we have for this (2 days, 1 night) dictates that we stay right in Gstaad so we can walk to the tennis grounds and otherwise enjoy all the tournament festivities. I know there are some very lovely hotels there, but we need a triple room and can't afford 4 stars. So I am looking at the Sporthotel Victoria and the Posthotel Rössli, both of which are in the pedestrian zone (a big plus in my book), and both of which meet our budget of 300 CHF for the triple room (actually a double with Zusatzbett). The Rössli room has a balcony, another big plus, but it looks like it is further from the tennis grounds. But maybe it's a nice walk along the promenade. I've never been to Gstaad so I can't really tell.

Can anyone suggest which would be the better choice in terms of location, charm, food, etc? Thank you so much!

Hello Enzian,

Sorry, I can't help you. Hopefully someone else can.

Hi enzian,

Sorry, I can't help either. I *think* the Posthotel Roessli is cuter than the Victoria, and I think it's next to the restaurant Chesery (highly highly recommended). But that's about all I can remember. Sorry!

I don't think you can go wrong, though. It's a tiny tiny village and very picturesque -- any walk at all will be a pleasure.

Hope I can help :-) (btw, enzian, didn't know your son likes Dresden so much! Good to hear.)

When I visited Gstaad from Montreux a couple of years ago I had a wonderful lunch on the terrace of Hotel Victoria. It is right next to the train station. The Rössli is only a 4 or 5 minutes walk from there - Gstaad is really small.

The Rössli definitely has more charm. I went in and talked with the receptionist, because I thought it would be a great place to stay. Very friendly folks there and I liked the location right in the middle of the pedestrian zone. Small square and fountain in front.

The tennis courts are nearby - only a short walk away. I wish I could be there too, because I am a hobby tennis player.

(Hi s!)

Ingo and swandav---thank you both. I was leaning toward the Rössli because I thought it the more charming of the two, but couldn't tell from the map how long a walk it would be to the tennis grounds. You have confirmed that it is but a short walk, so I'll go ahead and book there. They were very nice in their response to my inquiry.

Ingo---my son was fortunate to study engineering for several months in Berlin, and then did a Praktikum in a Fahrrad factory in a small village east of Dresden. I think he took the train into Dresden to enjoy the city whenever he had the time. He still has love for Dresden.
