Help with getting to Ephesus, Turkey

I'm having some trouble finding the easiest way to get to Epehsus from Santorini. I've come up with 2 options (neither which is fantastic), so wondering what those who've been or have expertise think of these options. Note that we are going in early October so it won't be peak season, and we sadly have limited time:

Option 1: Ferry to Heraklion (high speed hopefully), then fly (via Sky Express) to Samos and ferry to Esphesus area.

Option 2: Fly from Santorini to Athens to Istanbul. Next morning do day tour to Ephesus which includes flight to/from Izmir out of Istanbul.

Thanks!!

As far as I know from my own research, you've got the most logical possiblities covered. Neither option is wonderful, but I'd probably go with option #2, since I'd prefer to be on an Aegean or Olympic plane over one of the tiny planes we saw being used by Sky Express last summer.

Turkey has got it's act together regarding tourism. You can get tours to Ephesus from a number of cities (I went from Bodrum). Lots of other historic sites worth visiting in Turkey while you're there.

my problem is getting to ephesus from either istanbul or santorini or athens. i actually think it's not so easy to navigate or determine best routes. the way it stands, i need to take 6 flights to see Ephesus if I'm starting in Santorini).

seems to me ephesus is alot easier to see if you are doing a cruise.

Could be - that's how I saw it, but didn't know for you. I saw it on a cruise that was only a couple days long.
