Day 6 Cesky Krumlov to Hallstatt Austria (day trip) then back to Cesky Krumlov
Day 7 Cesky Krumlov to Prague- departure in the evening

OPTION 2

Day 1 Munich Arrival in the AM sightseeing for the rest of the day and overnight
Day 2 Munich to Fussen Day trip

What time of the year
How many?
Any physical/medical issues we need to know about?
What interests do you have that have chosen these places.

For me you need 4 days in Prague and a couple in Munich with possibly the whole first day ruined by jetlag.

These other places (I've been to them all) are second draw places compared to the big two.

middle week of april-i will be travelling with my family and all are physically fit. hmm which of these places do you think I should cross out? Prague- for me is a mystical place that I really want to explore. I want to see st vitus cathedral, prague castle and charles bridge. I also plan to explore prague at night (ghost haunting walk/tour) with my sister. with cesky krumlov-I want to go to this old town and also feel the medieval vibe and my father loves beer-and also I wanna try the cheese.
I also want to go antiquing and of course beads!

I have always been fascinated by ludwig's life and wanted to see neuchwenstein and hohenschwangau castle that's why I want to go to fussen.

with hallstatt-I want to see a place that has existed for thousands of years and also the lake.

I am looking forward to visitng toy museums as well. I initally planned to explore more of bavaria like nuremberg, rothenberg and lohr but due to time constraint-I have to narrow it down.

I'd just plan for Munich and Prague and you'll be fine. If you get bored of Prague (I doubt it) then just jump on the train to Pilsen (where the beer comes from) or Kotna Hora

neuchwenstein is just a modern fake castle, only built in 1860.

cesky krumlov is 13th to 16th century so relatively modern

hallstatt is 16th cent.

I would also limit your trip to Munich and Prague so you can enjoy both of them. We just completed our second trip to Prague during the 2015 Christmas Markets, spent 4 nights and again enjoyed the city. Trying to see to much will get you real tired real quick.

Tip: Great restaurant to try in Prague recommended to me by a friend. WHITE HORSE. Find the famous clock in the square, turn around and look slightly left. It looks like your typical outdoor setting but the main restaurant is downstairs in an ancient cellar. Great food. Entertainment after 8. we ate there with two other couples in Dec 15. Loved it.

Option 2 has less backtracking and seems more logical and a nice one in either case - going by train? Or car - if car renting in one country and dropping off in another can result if a predatorily steep drop-off fee. Trains are nice and can easily reach all your places - for lots on trains check www.seat61.com - great info on discounted tickets available if you book in stone way way earluy; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

If by car consider flying into and out of Prague and kind of doing option 1.

Option 2 would be my choice, and I would consider keeping Hallstatt and Cesky Krumlov as "optional," depending on weather. The middle of April here can be springlike or miserable. In the case of inclement weather, the beauty of the two cities can be obscured by fog, grey skies, and/or rain. We have been to both places in the rain; the most memorable part of those visits was finding a cozy restaurant, the slogging around and having umbrellas bumping all the other wet visitors, not so much.

I noticed that you had planned a similar trip for 2012. Were you able to take that holiday? Did the itinerary work well?

no,had to cancel my 2012 trip because I had to have some minor operation and had to recover.

hmm, maybe u are all right and keep cesky krumlov and hallstatt optional. I plan o stay longer in Prague because there seems to be more to see with a limited budget, I plan to stay in Munich for a couple of days and maybe go to nuremberg before going to prague and spend as much as 4-5 days in prague with one day for travel back.
