HELP WITH GELATERIA

Hello all,

I am writing here in a desperate need of finding this gelateria in Florence that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of.

I have searched up and down online only to find nothing.

The gelateria is located in Piazza Signoria in Florence and is on the same side of the piazza as the wall with all of the monuments and statues. I am sure it is not Vivoli, it is a less well known gelato place.

It also is split into two different sides. The one side is the gelateria of course, and the other side is a 'tavola calda'

Any help with the name is greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks so much

Lorena

There is a Gelateria Carrozze on the river front near Uffizi and Gelateria dei Neri which is two blocks from Palazzo Vecchio. Those are the only ones that I have visited in the area.

You are probably talking about Vivoli which is near that piazza. It also has two sides - one side is the gelato area and the other side is like a bakery. In any event, it is (in our opinion) highly over-rated and your best best is to go over to the Ponte Vecchio and have gelato over there. It is wonderful.

I thought Vivoli was near Santa Croce. Do they have more than one location? (I also thought it was some of the best gelato in Italy!)

Hi, could it be Rivoire? Not a gelateria only but cafe and confectionery and I assume they serve gelato. Best hot chocolate I've ever had. Tables inside, and also out on the piazza. It is on the same side of the piazza as the Loggia dei Lanzi where the statues are.

On the same side as the statues on the Piazza (I assume you mean the ones on the platform directly across from the Uffizi) there is a gelateria that also has a tavola calda. My husband paid 5 Euro for a gelato there a few months ago and said it was forgettable. I thought it was a huge ripoff and refused to spend that much for a gelato.

There are 3 great ones in Florence. I think you are talking about PERCHE NO? which is closest to Piazza Signoria.

DolciBionda, I know the gelateria/tavola calda that you are talking about. The tavola calda side faces the side entrance of Cafe Rivoire. We bought dinner there twice and gelato once. Can't find my receipt though, so sorry I don't know the name. I did llike the gelato in Perche No better though. The gealto was approx 1E per scoop if I remember correctly.

I used to be a Perche No fan, but I am a Vivoli convert. However, I had gelato just as good in 2 other places, one in Orvieto, and one in San Gim.

The one in Orvieto everyone knows about, across from the Duomo. The one in San Gim is in the smaller square, in the middle of the block (not the place on the corner).

IMHO, after exhaustive but not yet complete experimentation, these are the 3 best gelato places.

You've got me really interested in your hidden place now
I tried on line looking for a Florence 'yellow pages' but couldn't come up with one--that might be the way to go.
Or inquire via email of the business association or chamber of commerce in Florence?
Do tell us if you find the name

Our family was split between Perche No and Vivoli as best. We came to the conclusion that it was a matter of flavor ordered. We also liked the place right near the Ponte Vecchio on the way to the Uffizi for gelato emergencies. We hated the one on the other side of the bridge.

And then we visted Gelateria de Neri on the very, very last night. We doubted our taste buds, so we turned around at our hotel doorstep and returned to the gelateria, much to the owner's shock. We re-ordered, tasted, and became a family united: Gelateria de Neri rules.

When you said it was to the left of Rivoire, I looked at the photo album from our honeymoon 14 years ago. Sure enough, hubby took a picture of me, holding two cones of dripping gelato, in front of Gelateria/Caffe il Davide which is exactly where you describe. It has a tavola calda next door.

I think we need to go to Florence ourselves just to make sure the picture is accurate.

Thank you everyone for still trying. I really do appreciate it.

Girisa, I looked up 'Caffe il Davide'in the Italian yellow pages, but nothing was found. Do you think the name may have changed by now?

In any event, Im about to give up, I've searched everywhere and I cant find ANYTHING! You wouldnt believe the numerous things I have put in search engines to find this.

If this helps I know the gelateria is one street over from 'Farmacia Molteni' a pharmacy I purchased from. The pharmacy is on Via Calzaivoli and the gelateria is the street over to the right of that along that tiny side street, which is the next street over.

I've looked for maps online but none of them are any good.

-Look forward to hearing from everyone

Lorena

Please excuse my typo in the above post the street is Via Calzaiuoli where the pharmacy is found. I typed a 'V' instead of a 'U' by mistake.

Also, I just found a reciept in one of my bags where I had purchased a bottle of water somewhere in Florence. There is no name on the reciept but the address is Via Vacchereccia...Does anyone know if this street is near the Rivoire? (since we have concluded that this tiny gelateria is found somewhere near there)..Thanks!

Caffe il Davide certainly may have changed it's name in the last fourteen years but in any event, with the new info you have provided, that's not the place. Davide is immediately left of Rivoire as you face Rivoire. Via dei Calzaiuoli is the main street leading from the Piazza della Signoria to the Duomo and is to the right of Rivoire as you face it. The first tiny street to the right of Via Calzaiuoli is Vicolo di Cerchi.
