Help with French locale?
Someone was telling me about a place in France that is supposed to be great for the summer (compared it to the Hamptons of France?). It is something that sounds like "Canook" or "C'nook". Not Cannes, and not making fun of Canadians :)
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I would assume it's along the Mediterranean coast... |
Carnet-Plage near Perpignan could fill the bill
|
I would assume, it is Cabourg near Deauville. It meets the "Hamptons" flair better than Carnet-Plage and it is close to Paris.
|
Oh yes Carnet-Plague is no Hampton's - forgot about that
it's a modern high-rise type front de mer type place - not a Hampton only problem with Cabourg in summer is that summer may never come |
Well, here's why I couldn't find it - apparently it's in Belgium and called something like Knok.
Thanks for your responses - NOW does anyone have more ideas? |
Knokke-Heist (sp?) not far from Bruges on the Flemish 'Riviera' - yes a rather sedate swank seaside resort but having been there and NOT the Hamptons i would not call it the Flemish Hamptons.
|
that would be it! hmm, yeah, now that i am looking into it... might rather spend my time on the cote d'azur instead...
thanks everyone! |
Again in Belgium always potentially lousy summer weather - lots of rain possible
|
Knokke-Heist aka Knokke-le-Zoute - cf "Knokke-Le-Zoute Tango" by famous Belgian singer Jacques Brel.

Knokke should be great??? Rather strange.
If you want a spectacular beach go the Atlantic coast between the Gironde and Biarritz. It is breathtaking. |
Pal it is Canet not Carnet(notebook) :-)
T1959 you mean les Landes region with Biscarosse, la Dune du Pilat, Mimizan. Long beaches and surfers...((H)) |
