Help with Etruscan ruins/roads in Tuscany area

I have seen photos of the ancient Etruscan roads, etc. and was wondering if a day trip from Greve in Chianti is realistic as I am not sure of the location and distance.

Any tips on further investigation, location, etc. would be great!

Thanks!

Everything you need to know about Greve is here: www.greve-in-chianti.com. There are no Etruscan roads near Greve ("Roman" roads - mediaeval, in fact - may be found in the forest near Lamole - there's a picture of one on www.lamole.info - a few miles away). The nearest Etruscan ruins of any note to Greve are at Castellina in Chianti(www.castellina.com). Tuscany is a very large region and there is an important Etruscan museum at Volterra (www.volterra.net) and Orvieto (in Umbria) has evidence of an Etruscan presence. Volterra can easily be visited in a day from Greve.

Etruscan ruins are signed in yellow. Just keep an eye out when you're driving around.

Hi T,

Check out the Etruscan ruins in Fiesole, just outside Florence.

Ira, Great idea. I am making sure to see Fiesole this time around as we missed it the last two times. I keep reading about it and am determined to go this time (Oct.).

Guidebook writers tips on Etruscan sites:
-Further south in N. Lazio you will find the Etruscan Triangle (Tarquinia, Tuscania, Vetralla) World heritage sites with the most spectacular painted tombs, rock cliff tombs such as Norchia and the vie cave .
-The area around Pitigliano, Sorano arealso excellent for Etruscan sites.
-www.elegantetruria.com will give you more info on these sites
