Help with Customs Info

I am flying from the US to Rome in 2 weeks. I am considering purchasing a one-way ticket on Ailitalia from Rome to Naples, rather than going by train to Naples.
I will be checking my luggage. Once I land in Rome, get my baggage and go through customs, will I have enough time to re-check my baggage and make my flight to Naples? I have no idea how long it takes to check back in at the airport. I arrive @ 7:35AM and the flight I would take departs @ 9:45.
Any suggestions? Or simply make the train connections? The next flight out of Rome isn't until 1:30.

130 minutes will be more than enough time to collect your baggage, go through customs, and then check into your Naples flight. But double-check your second flight, because there is a very small chance that it will be leaving from Romes second airport, Ciampino.

I was on a flight scheduled to arrive at 7:30 a short time ago. Flight was late, so we arrived around 8. Got through immigration about 8:45, then retrieved our bags around 9:20.

Your experience may vary, but don't count on 130 minutes scheduled time being enough.

You may be able to check through your bags to NAP from the US, even if you're on two tickets. Most major airlines will have interline baggage agreement with Alitalia to transfer bags.

Show the check-in agent in the US your FCO-NAP ticket/itinerary. It'll take them a little bit, typing bunch of keystrokes or calling, to confirm it. Or they may need to find a supervisor who knows.

But it can be done.

We flew from Frankfurt FRA to Rome FCO on June 6th on Lufthansa. Luggage from our flight didn't start coming out until 55 minutes after we deplaned (an hour and 5 minutes after we landed). In our experience, luggage can be but is not always, really slow at FCO. 130 minutes is not much time. I'd feel more comfortable with 3 hours.
