Quick note: I wore my new-ish black Mary Jane-style Eccos for my trip to Ireland two years ago. Yes, the soles felt thin, and after a day of walking, I felt 10 years older (in a bad, bad way). I still wear them to work every now and then, and I can feel the ache in my knees when I go home at night.
