help with cijpercode!
Hello,
I am trying to buy some things online. While I am guessing that 'Kaartnummer' is card no., have no idea what 'cijfercode' translates to. Does anyone? Thanks. |
In the absence of any replies from folks in the know, you might try a translating site: http://world.altavista.com/ They're not perfect, however!
What country, or what language?
My guess is that it's the verification code number that is included on the back side of your credit card.
It is Dutch. Kaartnummer is indeed card number and cijfercode is literally "figure code" (PIN)
Thanks for the replies. Another question: is the 10 digit pin only applicable to Dutch or EC cards?
10 digit PIN? Never heard of it. All bank card PINs in the Netherlands are 4 digits.
I have never ever come across a website that asks for one's PIN when processing payment by credit card. Not once.
I have, however, been asked for the three digit security code which appears on the back of the card, often at the end of a longer number. From what I have heard, requests for PINs when asking for credit card numbers are often related to fraudulent use, though I'm sure this is not always the case. I'd look for confirmation of the site's legitimacy and what number they want you to enter, before providing this kind of information. Alternatively, use a credit card with a very low upper spending limit, which you can use only for online purchases. |
Thanks for the tip. The site I am on is pathe.nl; I'm trying to reserve tickets to a movie at the Tuchinski (sp?) in Amsterdam. Everything goes ok until prompt saying 'Je cijfercode moet 10 cijfers lang zijn' pops up. For some silly reason, I thought I could just guess at the translation!
Oh wow. The renovated Tuschinski is gorgeous - well worth a look, even without the flick:

That's the code you receive with which you can pick up your tickets. It is just a warning that the code should be 10 digits and you should write down these 10 digits to be able to get your tickets when you arrive at the cinema.
Dank u wel, Sjoerd! Can't wait to see the movie at the Tuschinski!

Mystery solved!!!
