Help with Athens/Santorini Trip in Oct
A group of women are traveling together to Santorini and Athens in late October. Our travel company has booked the flights and hotels for 6 days in Santorini and 6 days in Athens. We're looking for suggestions for day trips from either place that will give us the best taste of Greece.
Thanks MaggiZ

There are a few islands near Santorini that you can visit for the day as long as the ferries are running. The schedules usually provide one in the morning going and one in the evening returning. But Late October is after the ferry schedule has been cut back for the winter, so you'll have to wait until then to be sure my assessment is accurate. The islands are Ios, Naxos and Paros.
From Athens you can take day trips to Aegina, Andros or Hydra.

Maggiz - not sure your travel agent has done the best by you here. Sure there are advantages in not having to change accomm too often, but sometimes these are outweighed by the restrictions you place on yourself in always having to return from whence you started.
As BLL says, October ferries run to the winter timetable which is much less frequent than in summer. Is it too late to change that 6 days in Santorini (

As BLL says, October ferries run to the winter timetable which is much less frequent than in summer. So if you really want to see more than your 2 main destinations you might be better staying on two islands if it's not too late to amend your itinerary. Say - 4 days in Santorini (wonderful place) and 2 in Naxos (from where it is only a very short boat trip to Delos), or Paros, or Mykonos.
As for Athens - it's a long time since I've been there. You should be able to get out to the Saronic Is - Hydra, Aegina - but again, why not go stay there overnight?
Have a wonderful time.

Well, here is my advice. Click on the following link
http://www.culture.gr/
Then, click on the -Cultural map of Greece figure- and you will see an interactive map of Greece. Then you can choose Athens, Santorini and many other places you want. If you choose for example, Attica, you will be able to see all the archaeological sites, museums, monuments, galleries and so on near Athens. Then, you can click on the building you want, and you will see a description, pictures and information regarding the area you have chosen. After that, I think, you will be able to choose the places you want to see and visit. This, will give you the best taste of Greece, customised by you! Enjoy it.

I second the suggestion to go to Delphi. Absolutely the top site in the area. You can get an overnight bus tour out of Athens or a rushed one-day tour. If you want to drive, you can also stop by Osso Loucas, a stunning Byzantine church.
