Help with Ancona

Looks like we are going to have to stay over 1 night in Ancona to catch a ferry to Croatia. Anyone with hotel ideas? Should we stay near the train station (Fortuna) or near the port(The Jolly)? Appreciate any help. We're coming from Venice. Thanks.

The city centre is near the port. The area round the station is pretty desolate, especially at night. Most ferries from Ancona to Split are overnight - if you book a cabin, you'll wake up in Split the next morning. It shouldn't really be necessary to stop a night in Ancona.

RV - If you don't get any recommendations, Yellow Pages lists a number of hotels in Ancona. Here's the link:

Those with 'www' have their own websites.

Hope this helps ...

If you stay overnight, I'd recommend the Jolly Hotel. We stayed there & found it cool, quiet, modern, a good restaurant and with a nice view of the port, and within easy walking distance of the port which is basically across the street (although you must walk or ride down a hill to reach it as the hotel sits on a bluff) and the old town center. The train station is about iKM farther away from the port, not walking distance though there are buses & cabs. The issue is your budget. Fortuna is cheaper than Jolly.

Hi ReddVelvet, my BF, parents and I are doing the same thing in a couple of weeks - why did you decide to spend the night in Ancona? We figure it will be much cheaper to take the ferry overnight to Split and wake up there - I would recommend staying in Ravenna instead of Ancona if you're doing the overnight ferry. If you're doing the day ferry then I guess it would make sense to wake up in Ancona.
