Help with Allocating Time in 6 Cities
 

I'm traveling in October to Italy for the first time. (I've got 13 days) I would like to see the following cities but desperately need help allocating a good amount of time for each: (I only want to spend a day or two in Paris before I leave)

Rome, Siena, Florence, Venice, Portofino, Como, Paris

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What do you want to do/hope to see/etc? You can research those cities here and on other sites and get tons of info. I'll be in a few of those places for my honeymoon and have it like this:
Lake Como 2 nights, Venice 2 nights, Florence 2 nights, Tuscany 5 nights-will spend at least a day/evening in Siena. From what I've researched you can spend weeks in Rome! (we are not going there).

I think that you have too many cities for the time available.

May I suggest that you limit yourself to Rome/Florence/Venice?

You can fly into Rome or Venice and out the other, or do a RT from any of the three.

One plan: You can do 4 days Rome, 3 days Venice and 6 days Florence. From Florence you can take 3 day trips to:
Siena, Lucca and Pisa, Bologna or Orvieto.

Whatever you do, have a great trip.

We just got back from Italy this week and did a similar itinerary....this is what we did for 12 days:

Flew into Venice - 1 night in Venice;
Train to Rome in the evening next day and 3 nights in Rome; Picked up car and drove to Orvieto for the afternoon; drove on to Siena and stayed 2 nights; We spent one of those days driving thru Chianti; We then went to florence for 2 days/nights. Took the train to Camogli (next to Portofino)and spent 2 nights there (one day in Camogli and 1 day in Chinque Terre). We took the train to Milan and spent our last afternoon there and flew home.

If you do decide to add in Paris, you may want to consider flying into Italy and then when done, taking a overnight train to Paris. Spend 2 days in paris and fly home from Paris. Our trip was very "Packed" and we did a lot. We have travelled to europe before and had all of our arrangements made before leaving the US to minimize our time setting things up (example: tickets for Vatican, Ufizzi, Accademia, Last Supper Painting, train and car). I agree with Ira. Too much in 13 days. Portofino and Como are not near any of the other places and would require effort and time to get to. Skip Paris on this trip.
