Help with a git in Alsace
 

I was hoping some of you might suggest a gite in the Alsace area that you found to be pleasant. I have been looking online but many of the reviews are not in english. Wi-fi is a must. Other than that just clean and convenient to access with a car. We have stayed in several agriturismos in Italy and thought we might try for the same type of accommodation here. Thanks for your help.

gite not the same thing as an agritorismo, gite more small house, agri more working farm with staff on site.

gite-de-france has English language section though that does limit the range.

If you could suggest a town we could advise, or why not find four or five and let us recommend one, wifi (weefee en france) may be an issue (tick the box under services)

I haven't stayed here, but have used the website in the past to find gites, always lovely, and as described. I did you the Dutch version though, which may throw up more results.

I checked the Gites-de-france site and there are around 300 3 & 4 "wheatie" gites within 10 K of Riquewihr. The specific one we stayed in does not have WiFi.

They were great, the apartment was perfect and we loved the town once the daytrippers left. I would highly recommend it.

do take note of what bilboburgler said that a gite is NOT an agriturismo. Some gites on that website are just small apartments, in fact, and some are in urban locations.

I think the OP wanted to read the reviews, and of course, they are mostly in French. So it was the reviews issue rather than being able to navigate the website otherwise that was the problem. don't think the website even lists Wifi as one of the service options, anyway, they jsut list "internet" which could mean something else.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep looking. I realize a gite is not the same as an agristursmo but I felt it was a similar comparison for france.

We, also, rented from I Love Riquewihr, and loved our apartment built into the remparts of the medieval village, but I would not call it a gite, which I think of as a rural, rather rustic dwelling. In fact, the owner refers to it as a house. This place had a Nespresso machine and a state-of-the-art pellet burning fireplace!

We've rented 67 Gites - and very few of them have been "rustic", IMO. Maybe rustic settings - but not rustic dwellings.

Bilbo et al - so much for categorical statements and their veracity: There is no limit to what a gîte can be - we stayed in one, through Gîtes de France, near Carpentras in farm country, which was the house adjacent to a main house of working farm, just like what could be labeled as "agriturismo". Daily fresh fruit from next door (we were in the house that, traditionally, the old folks would move into after the next generation takes over the farm).

In fact, the gîtes movement arose out of the need to preserve country houses, most of them attached to farms, that would have fallen in disrepair if not re-purposed.

OP is advised to look at each listing on Gîtes de France carefully, they cannot be lumped together or categorized casually.

That would be any future OP interested in gîtes, since this bird has flown...
I wonder what caused this thread to pop up among today's new ones?

I'm sure there was an advertising post just before your post, Michel, that topped this thread. That is usually what brings up old posts.
