help with 1 week intinerary-Madrid to?????

We are visiting my daughter for 1 week in April-she is a student in Seville and will be on break. We are flying into Madrid and land about 10 am on the Thursday before Semana Santa. We leave the following Wednesday at 6 am. Too short..I know I know. It is the first trip to Spain for both of us.

My husband is adamant about seeing the Prado and a bit of Madrid. My daughter will have traveled around Andulucia and has made a quick trip to Madrid and Toledo; she is opened to anything.

I am mulling over a couple different itineraries-The first is to do a bit of Madrid and travel to Seville on Thursday, spend Thursday and Friday night in Seville, Saturday in a small town in Andulcia, Spend Sunday and Monday in some combination of Madrid and Toledo.

The other one is to just base ourselves in Madrid and see Salamanca, Toledo, Segovia, and forget about Andulcia.

Help...I know we can't see it all-how should we focus oour time...any suggested itinerary? Any help (including recommended accomodations) would be great!!

We did something like that four years ago when our daughter was a student in Salamanca. We spent three days with her there, three days with her in Madrid and then a week in Granada - it was a return trip for her, as she'd previously studied there. We loved Salamanca: the university, cathedral and the old part of the city generally. The weather that Easter was superb. From Madrid we had a day trip to Segovia on Good Friday - an experience in itself. We didn't visit Toledo, though I went there in 1969 and loved it. It may be too touristy now.

The Prado is superb: I went there three times in 1969 and spent half a day there this time and two more half days in the other museums.

We also enjoyed Granada, with day trips to Ronda and the Alpujarras. But we had a whole week there, and if you have only a week in total, I would stay in the north, as the distances are considerable in Andalucia. You don't mention whether you'll have a car or not. We travelled by train and bus, and stayed in hostals. Try
for accommodation in Madrid.
