Help--Which Paris hotel?
 

I am looking for a moderately priced but very nice hotel as I will be flying solo and 1st trip to Paris. I intend to spend several days at Louvre and so would like to be near enough to walk this area, as well as a central location for lots of subway choices to other attractions.

Would like a spot that is busy enough at night but not falling down drunk that if I am outside the hotel I will feel safe and blend in.

Also, looking for a place with atmosphere and ambiance-"not new" but maybe updated? Free WiFi and a pool or work-out facility would seal it for me as I have a bum shoulder to keep up with.

My initial reaction is Hotel du Louvre but can I get it half price on Priceline doyou think?

Others that appeal but that are missing one of my preferred attributes::

Hotel St. Jacques
Hotel Lenox Saint Germain (kind of high on my price end)
Hotel de la place Vosges
Le Relais du Louvre

Thoughts, recommendations anyone?

We stayed here the first time back in 1991. It is very close to the Louvre and just a block from the Palais Royal Metro stop. No pool or workout room, this is Paris after all, so don't expect that in a hotel. There may be some hotels with both, but you'll pay the price! This is a small Paris hotel. www.hotelleloiret.com

Mollie: This is a very pretty hotel. Only thing I came across of concern was when I went to check availability, the hotel name changed to Hotel Louvre Les Enfants.

Hmmm...anyone else have experience with this hotel? It is a very good price & locale.

I stayed at the Hotel Bonaparte on the recommendation of Ira from Fodors and was very happy with the choice. Walking distance to Louvre, D'Orsay and Latin Quarter. They are very accommodating and they speak english. I felt it was very convenient. I would also mention that I rented a bike and had a blast. Rode to the Sacre Couer. All the way up the hill. Enjoy

Well, I had finally set my heart on St. Jacques but they were all full (imagine that at those prices!).

I've booked a room at the Lenox instead. My thinking that with the Jazz Club downstairs that I can safely nightcap and toddle up to the room after listening to some of my favorite music!

Will let you know how it goes.

Anyone have tips for the Lenox and vicinity?

I stayed at the Lenox a few years ago and it was great. The bar downstairs is nice and quite convenient. We walked to a ton of places, mostly during the day but sometimes at night and always felt safe, but I was with a group. I am jealous! Have fun!
